#Diversity Sketches
Diverse Deck of Playing Cards

November 2021  // Each suit features an ethnic group, each face card — a culture within that ethnicity. Plus, it gender-balanced! So, good-bye King, Queen, Jack.
Several client projects I've worked on at a(m) have focused heavily on diversity. I chose to do this personal project because I felt is was a powerful way to start conversations surrounding diversity. In a perfect world, this could be a global artistic collaboration. But I realized that I had to make the first deck to kick the project off.

Seek & Find Book

Inspired by my childhood home and an adorable nephew that had the original idea. For Christmas 2022, he and my other nieces & nephews received this as a very special gift under their tree.

The artwork was digital painted in Photoshop from reference photos I took, several custom brushes, memories of places I played, and a little bit of love. Complete with 9 special scenes and a map to get around.
Flip through the book
I suggest viewing in full screen to help get the fully immersive experience of a child seeing it for the first time. If not, please pardon the ads along the side. It's the free version of the flip-book software.

January 2019

After admiring the polygon art style for years, I decided that I would try my hand at this art style. My style evolved after exploring different strategies, but I must say that the geometry nerd in me is really excited about creating in this overall style. The sea creature series is based of some pencil character sketches I did a few years ago.

Animated.

February  2019 // Since this was the first time any of my fish sketches were in a digital format, I wanted to explore animating one of them using After Effects. Mr. Big Lips was the simplest of the collection, so he was the one to be brought to life. The speed of the animation might be a little slow, but I'm pleased with the overall effect I was able to create.

Dancing Geometry

Symmetry x 6

February  2019 // The expressions behind Symmetry x 4 were a little more straightforward to figure out than this one. I tried several different strategies to get degree-based relationships to work correctly. It took a little bit of tinkering and head-scratching. With the added challenge of wanting to control the shapes in 3D, I am delighted at what I was able to wire up on this one. Take that quirky After Effects!

Symmetry x 4

February 2019 // The first geometric art animation I completed in After Effects. After learning how to control shapes with individual points of a shape for the Curling Fish animation, I wanted to explore that control with only geometric goals (not trying to make sure it still looked like a fish. ) After figuring out and wiring up the expressions, it was exciting to see the how many different effects I could create.

Still looking, huh?

Check out some more of my work from even further back...
